UP RTO Code List:- Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation works under the Road Transport Act, 1950 with the mission to provide economical adequate and effective road transport services. It deals with various transport related matters like driving license, registration of motor vehicles, grant and renewal of permits, collection of taxes / fees, and all the other regulatory and enforcement task assigned to it under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

RTO means Regional Transport Office, these are regional offices that falls under vehicle motor departments. These departments were established under Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 to perform activities and functions assigned to Regional Transport Offices (RTO). There are following document required for vehicle registration in Uttar Pradesh State, UP RTO.

What is the process of Vehicle Registration at RTO?

Apply for registration of your vehicle at Regional Transport Office or by visiting the online portal of RTO registration. Then fill up Form 20 and submit the form. What is the validity of Vehicle Registration certificate?

The registration certificate of a vehicle is officially valid for a period of 15 years from the date of issuing registration certificate. After 15 years, the vehicle is required to undergo a fitness test on passing which, the registration can be renewed for a period of up to 5 years.

Can I drive my vehicle after Vehicle registration get expired?

Yes, only up to five working days after the registration expires without penalty, after that you will fined for the offense of driving with an expired registration.

Do I need to Re-register the vehicle if have bought second hand vehicle ?

If you bought a used vehicle or second hand vehicle then you need to re-register the vehicle at RTO Office with the required documents and forms with original RC of Vehicle to get the ownership transferred to your name.

What is Hypothecation or Form 34?

Hypothecation means until you complete repayment, the car or bike ownership remains with your lender . When you register your car or bike after purchase at the local RTO, the office will ensure that it is registered in your name. Even the registration certificate or RC will bear your name as the car's or bike's owner.
